Newly Released Documents Show Former PC Basketball Coach English Paid $3 Million Plus

Recently made available tax documents filed by Providence College and secured by GoLocal unveil that in 2024, then-Friar men’s basketball coach Kim English received a compensation package worth more than $3 million.

The compensation numbers have not been previously reported.

The documents raise new questions about what PC is paying in buyout payments after firing English.

According to the documents, English received in 2024:

 

Base Compensation: $2,545,000

 

Bonus & Incentive Compensation: $340,000

 

Other reportable compensation $85,404

 

Retirement and other deferred compensation: $24,150

 

Nontaxable benefits: $21,451

 

Total $3,016,012

 

English was fired in March of this year.

 

English coached three seasons at Providence, compiling an overall record of 48-52 and a 23-37 mark in the Big East.

 

He reportedly had three years remaining on his contract after he was fired.

 

Creating a scenario in which Providence is buying out English's for as much as $8 to $9 million.

 

PC has refused to disclose the payout number.

 

The data cited comes from the 990 filing by Providence College filed on May 5, 2026, but was only made available recently.
