Supreme Court Upholds State Restrictions on Transgender Athletes

The Wall Street Journal reports:

The Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that states can ban transgender women and girls from playing on female sports teams, a bitterly fought issue that has been a political and cultural flashpoint.

The court ruled against two young athletes—one now in high school, the other finishing college—whose sex was recorded as male at birth but who identify as female.

“The Constitution does not require that schools determine eligibility for women’s and girls’ sports based on gender identity rather than biological sex,” Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote for the court, in a decision that largely divided the justices along ideological lines.

Twenty-seven states limit school sports for women and girls to athletes whose biological sex is female. In the remaining states, transgender athletes can compete on teams that align with their gender identity. The court’s decision effectively upholds the state bans, but it doesn’t require other states to impose such restrictions.

More Conflict Over the Future of the Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei says that “clearance of mines in the Strait of Hormuz is regulated by a relevant memorandum of understanding, and Tehran sees no need for third-party intervention”.

Baghaei adds that Iranian, Qatari officials to meet in Doha to discuss MoU deal with US and frozen Iranian funds.

Baghaei confirms that US envoys Jared Kushner, Steve Witkoff are in Doha, but there is no meeting with Iranian officials scheduled in the next days.

United States President Donald Trump [falsely] claimed earlier that Iran “requested a meeting” following the exchange of strikes last week.

More than 500,000 Venezuelans in need of emergency food assistance — UN

Tass, the Russian news agency, reports:

About 500,000 people in Venezuela are in need of emergency food assistance following the recent powerful earthquake, the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) said.

The organization is rapidly scaling up its operations in Venezuela and expanding food assistance to reach up to 500,000 people in the areas hardest hit by last week’s earthquakes. The response is being facilitated by well-established transport and logistics networks in Venezuela, where the WFP has operated for the past five years, as well as in Panama.

"Access to food was already of top concern for Venezuelans even before the earthquakes hit. Food prices remain far beyond the reach of many households, with the average monthly food basket costing families more than $600, several times higher than the average household income," the statement reads.

"The WFP is urgently appealing for an initial $50 million to provide emergency food assistance to up to 500,000 people over the next three months. The response will also support logistics and emergency communications. The WFP has the capacity to scale up to meet the food needs of one million people, if sufficient funding is secured," the organization pointed out.

Trump’s annual financial disclosure shows more than $580M in crypto-related income

CNBC reports:

President Donald Trump’s annual financial disclosure report was released on Tuesday by the U.S. Office of Government Ethics, revealing income of hundreds of millions of dollars from proceeds of crypto tokens and holdings of hundreds of individual company stocks.

Trump’s disclosure report for 2025, which was the first year of his second non-consecutive term in the White House, totals 927 pages.

The report reveals that Trump’s crypto-related income included about $515 million from the sale of tokens released by the firm World Liberty Financial, and $65 million from sales of equity in WLF’s holding company.
