New York: 2 Dead at Airport Collision

New York Times reports:

An Air Canada Express regional jet collided with a Port Authority fire truck after landing at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, killing the plane’s two pilots and shutting down all flights at the airport, officials said Monday.

Forty-one passengers and crew members were taken to the hospital, Kathryn Garcia, the executive director of the airport operator, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, said at an early morning news conference. She said that 32 of them had been released, and that some of the others had been seriously injured.

Iran: Vows to Destroy Middle East Water and Energy Facilities if US Attacks Power Plants

Guardian reports: 

Tehran has said it will “irreversibly destroy” essential infrastructure across the Middle East, including vital water systems, if the US follows through on Donald Trump’s threat to “obliterate” Iran’s power plants unless the Strait of Hormuz is fully opened within two days.

As Iranian missiles struck two southern Israeli cities overnight, injuring dozens of people, and Tehran deployed long-range missiles for the first time, the developments signalled a dangerous potential escalation of the war, now in its fourth week, with both sides threatening facilities relied on by millions of people.

The speaker of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said on Sunday that vital infrastructure in the region – including energy and desalination facilities – would be considered a legitimate target and would be “irreversibly destroyed” if his country’s own infrastructure was attacked.

France: Paris Elects Socialist Mayor

France 24 reports:

Socialist frontrunner Emmanuel Grégoire was elected Paris mayor on Sunday, beating right-wing former minister Rachida Dati and extending the left's quarter-century rule in the French capital, according to projections.

Grégoire, a 48-year-old former deputy of outgoing Mayor Anne Hidalgo, was credited with around 52% of the vote, trouncing Dati and hard-left rival Sophia Chikirou – and defying forecasts of a close race.

“Paris has decided to stay true to its history,” Grégoire told a cheering crowd, vowing to resist the right and far right in the lead-up to next year’s presidential polls.

U.K: Ambulances set on fire in anti-Semitic attack

Telegraph reports: 

Four ambulances belonging to a Jewish emergency service have been firebombed in an anti-Semitic attack outside a synagogue in London.

The vehicles, owned by the volunteer-run service Hatzola Northwest, were set on fire on Monday morning in Golders Green, London.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed it was treating the suspected arson attack as an anti-Semitic hate crime.

The force is searching for three suspects caught on CCTV approaching the parked ambulances on Highfield Road.
