Trump Threatens Ally Oman
President Trump on Wednesday warned the Gulf state of Oman, a U.S. ally, not to enter into any agreement with Iran to share control of the Strait of Hormuz or else face an American bombing campaign.
Quickly after making the threat, Mr. Trump said he didn’t believe the United States would have to take such an action.
“Oman will behave just like everybody else, or we’ll have to blow them up,” he said during a cabinet meeting, responding to a reporter’s question about the strait. “They understand that. They’ll be fine.”

"60 Minutes" Cuts Star Journalist
CBS News hasn’t renewed “60 Minutes” correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi’s contract, months after the journalist challenged Editor in Chief Bari Weiss’s decision to hold a show segment.
Alfonsi said in a statement Wednesday that her contract’s expiration over the weekend drew “to a close nearly twenty years with the network.” She remains an at-will employee, according to people familiar with the matter.
The storied outlet is in the throes of a major transformation under Weiss that has included tense moments between its news staff and top executives, programming changes and high-profile departures. Longtime “60 Minutes” correspondent Anderson Cooper said in February that he planned to exit after the current season, which wrapped earlier this month.
Alfonsi in her statement issued a rebuke of CBS PSKY 2.41%increase; green up pointing triangle leadership, calling the network’s decision to allow her contract to expire “a deliberate choice to penalize a journalist for refusing to sanitize factually accurate reporting” that “sends a chilling message to the entire newsroom.”

Former first lady Jill Biden said she was "frightened" by her husband Joe Biden's 2024 debate performance and thought he was having a stroke.
"I was frightened, because I had never ever seen Joe like that before or since. Never," Jill Biden told CBS News Sunday Morning's Rita Braver in an interview airing Sunday on CBS.
"I don't know what happened," she said. "As I watched it, I thought, 'Oh, my God, he's having a stroke.' And it scared me to death."
Biden was running for a second term when he stumbled through the June 2024 presidential debate against Donald Trump, prompting widespread calls for him to drop out of the race. He dropped out a month later, with 107 days to go until the general election, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee. He became the first sitting president to pull out of a presidential race since President Lyndon B. Johnson stepped aside in March of 1968.
Global temperatures likely to remain at record levels in 2026-2030, UN says
Global average temperatures are likely to continue at or near record levels this year and for the next four years afterwards, the United Nations warned Thursday.
The 11 hottest individual years ever recorded all happened from 2015 onwards and the UN's weather and climate agency said the trend was set to continue, with a new hottest-ever year "likely" before 2031.
There is a 75 percent chance that the 2026-2030 five-year average temperature will surpass the key threshold of 1.5C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial average, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said.
The WMO outlook comes as western Europe swelters under a "heat dome" of warm air, breaking temperature records for May in Britain and France.
Middle East: U.S. and Iran Trade Blows
The United States has carried out new “defensive” strikes on an Iranian military site allegedly posing a threat to US forces and maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says it launched an attack on an “American airbase” and warns of “more decisive” action should US “aggression” continue.
The Israeli military issues forced displacement orders for the entire population of southern Lebanon – tens of thousands of people – with troops crossing the strategic Litani River and being confronted by Hezbollah.
Aid agencies warn of an “absolute catastrophe” in south Lebanon during Israel’s relentless bombardment and intensifying ground invasion.
