U.S.: Home and Office of LAUSD Superintendent Searched by FBI

NBC reports:

Law enforcement officers served a search warrant Wednesday morning at the home and office of Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, according to multiple law enforcement sources.

The DOJ confirmed that searches were being carried out. Other law enforcement sources told NBC4 Investigates that the searches are at Carvalho's office and San Pedro home.

U.S.: Hilary Knight Responds to Trump's Comment on Women's Hockey Team

Olympic gold medal winner Hilary Knight said Wednesday that a widely circulated comment from President Donald Trump about the United States women's team was a "distasteful joke" and that she's more focused on celebrating the women's accomplishments at the Milan Games.

During the American men's team's locker room celebration in Milan, Trump extended an invitation to the players to come to Washington for the State of the Union address. "I must tell you, we're going to have to bring the women's team, you do know that," adding with a laugh that if he didn't also invite the women's team, "I do believe I probably would be impeached."

India - Israel: India’s Modi Tells Israel’s Knesset: ‘No cause justifies killing civilians’

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi defended Israel’s devastating war on Gaza, saying it stands by the country “with full conviction” – despite accusations of genocide against the Palestinian people.

Modi gave a speech to the Knesset, or parliament, on Wednesday, on the first day of his two-day visit and received a standing ovation as he stressed India’s enduring support for Israel.

U.S.: PA Loves Shapiro

Philadelphia Inquirer reports: 

Pennsylvania voters appear to be all in on Gov. Josh Shapiro’s reelection bid, while some are still warming up to the thought of him being president one day.

Among registered voters, the Democratic incumbent leads his Republican challenger, State Treasurer Stacy Garrity, 55-37%, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

Meanwhile, 40% of Pennsylvania voters think that Shapiro, who has been bolstering his national political profile and has a job approval rating of 56%, would make a good president, according to the poll.

But 43 percent of the state’s voters do not think he would make a good president and 16% didn’t offer an opinion, despite his high overall approval.

U.S.: Americans Are Leaving the U.S. in Record Numbers

Last year the U.S. experienced something that hasn’t definitively occurred since the Great Depression: More people moved out than moved in. The Trump administration has hailed the exodus—negative net migration—as the fulfillment of its promise to ramp up deportations and restrict new visas. Beneath the stormy optics of that immigration crackdown, however, lies a less-noticed reversal: America’s own citizens are leaving in record numbers, replanting themselves and their families in lands they find more affordable and safe. 

Since the Eisenhower administration, the U.S. hasn’t collected comprehensive statistics on the number of citizens leaving. Yet data on residence permits, foreign home purchases, student enrollments and other metrics from more than 50 countries show that Americans are voting with their feet to an unprecedented degree. A millions-strong diaspora is studying, telecommuting and retiring overseas.
