Stabbings, Shots Fired, Attempted Robbery in Providence on New Year’s Eve

Providence Police responded to a stabbing, an attempted robbery, and multiple reports of shots fired in the city on New Year's Eve. 

Attempted Robbery

On Thursday at 3:30 PM, police were dispatched to the Metro PCS at 601 Cranston Street for a robbery.

On arrival police made contact with a customer who said a white male entered the store and told everyone he was robbing the store.

The customer said she was getting a cell phone when the man yelled "Put your hands up! I'm robbing you." The customer told police she feared for her life. 

An employee told the male to exit the store multiple times, asking him if he was being serious or joking around. The male stayed quiet for a couple of minutes and leaned on a display table ignoring the employee's order to exit the store.  After the employee threatened to call the police the male replied, "I'm just kidding" and exited the store. 

Shots Fired, Casings Found

Shortly after 4 PM on Thursday, police were dispatched to the intersection of Richter Street and Chalkstone Avenue for the report of shots fired. Police canvassed the area and located five spent shell casings just in from the intersection on Richter Street. 

A witness who wished to remain anonymous told police he heard the gunshots, looked out his window and observed a black male with black pants and a red hoodie run through backyards toward Frederick Street.

Shots Reported

Police responded to Melrose Street and Sumter Street at 6:30 PM for a report of shots fired. A caller had informed police that approximately seven (7) shots were heard and a dark colored vehicle was observed fleeing on Sumter Street towards Broad Street.

Upon arrival, police spoke to numerous witnesses that wished to remain anonymous who stated that they heard the shots closer to Ruskin Street but did not see anything. Another witness stated they observed a tan colored mini-van fleeing from the aforementioned area at a high rate of speed but they were unable to provide a license plate.
               
Multiple Stabbings

Just before 9:45 PM on Thursday, police responded to 2242 North Main Street for a report of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, police observed a male to be bleeding from the left torso area by multiple stab wounds. Police approach the man, who stated that he was walking down North Main Street and stabbed by a black male. 

The victim then stated that the unidentified black male fled the scene inside a gray caravan heading outbound on North Main Street towards the Pawtucket line.

Police then observed another male to be bleeding from the stomach by a minor knife cut. 

Rescue arrived on scene and transported the men to Rhode Island hospital for further treatment. Police said both victims "appeared to be intoxicated and had conflicting stories."

Shots at 7-11

On Friday morning at 5:45 AM, police responded to the 7-Eleven at 460 Smith Street for a Panic Alarm.

Police spoke with the store clerk who stated that an unidentified subject had fired a single shot in the parking lot. The clerk was able to provide Police with security footage of the incident which shows two unidentified black males exit a vehicle at which point the passenger removes a firearm from a "fanny pack" and fires a single shot into the air. 

The vehicle then left from the parking outbound on Smith Street. The suspect was described as a black male wearing blue jeans and a pink sweatshirt with a "fanny pack" draped across his torso.

Police canvassed the area and were able to locate (1) One spent .40 cal shell casings in the parking lot of 460 Smith Street.
