Armed Carjacking Reported in Providence Overnight

Police responded to reports of an armed carjacking in Providence overnight. 

Shortly after midnight, police were dispatched to 269 Valley Street for a report of a stolen vehicle. 

Upon arrival, police met with a man and a woman who reported that while they were sitting in their vehicle at Cutler and Barstow Streets when two subjects approached the vehicle and attempted to open the driver side door.

The man said he attempted to hold the door shut but one of the subjects punched him and was able to open the door. 

Gun Reportedly Used

A further struggle ensued, and once the man was out of the car he began to fight with the subjects at which point the second subject pulled out a pistol and struck him in the head with it. He suffered a laceration on his forehead as a result of the assault.

After the assault, the woman got out of the car and had a gun pointed at her. One subject then entered the vehicle and fled the scene outbound on Atwells Avenue. 

Police summoned Rescue to the scene to check the victim’s head. He was checked and left the scene under his own free will.
