Police Officer Assaulted, Report of Armed Carjacking of Pizza Driver Overnight in Providence

A Providence police officer was reportedly assaulted with a glass bottle while responding to a call early Wednesday morning in the city.

Police also responded to reports of an armed carjacking of a pizza delivery driver and an armed robbery.

Wednesday 12:09 AM - Felony Assault on Officer

Police were dispatched to 20 Randall Street for a report of a 911 call with yelling in the background.  

Upon arrival, the police were met by a subject who stated that his two guests were fighting and he wanted them out of his apartment. At this time the bedroom door was opened by another male subject, at which point the police observed a female behind him bleeding from the mouth area, who said she had been hit. 

While attempting to place the handcuffs on the subject, he pulled away and tried to fight with police.  As police started to gain control of his left arm, the subject grabbed a glass bottle with his right arm and struck a patrolman on the top of the head with the bottle. 

According to police, another officer was able to gain control of the subject's right arm and police placed handcuffs on him.  The subject was then escorted down to a marked police vehicle and transported to [central station] without further incident where he was turned over to detectives for charging, simple assault domestic, assault on a police officer, and resisting arrest.

The patrolman responded to Miriam hospital for treatment and was released.

Wednesday 1:20 AM - Report of Armed Carjacking 

Police were flagged down at the corner of Gallop and Broad Streets by a victim of an armed robbery that occurred at the intersection of Sackett and Niagara Streets.

The victim told police that he works as a delivery driver for Domino's Pizza and prior to flagging police down, he was delivering food to 1 Cadillac Drive. As he arrived with the pizza, he was called by the customer to change the location of the intended delivery to the intersection of Sackett and Niagara. 

Upon arrival, he was met at the intersection by two men wearing masks. The victim said he gave the customer his intended food delivery and during the transaction one of the men went to hand the victim the payment at which time both masked suspects displayed a knife and one of the masked suspects grabbed the victim's arm and removed him out of his vehicle. The suspects then fled in his vehicle. 

During the course of the investigation, the Dominos supervisor notified police that he had pinged [tracked] the stolen vehicle to an address on Harriet Street. Once the vehicle was pinged the Dominos supervisor drove to that location and observed a group of kids carrying food. He immediately suspected something was wrong and notified police.

Police arrived at Harriet Street at which time the group of subjects began to flee the area. Police set up a perimeter in the area of Gordon and Crowland Avenue. One of the suspects was apprehended in a yard in the area of Gordon Avenue.

During the apprehension, police observed a kitchen knife in the immediate area of the suspect, who was then transported to Central Station without incident to be held for Detectives. Rescue responded to the cell block to treat a minor injury to the suspect's left thigh that he had received when he tried to hop a fence when trying to flee from police.

The driver's vehicle was ultimately found in a parking lot across from 11 Minor Street. Detectives were summoned to the scene to process the vehicle.  

Wednesday 4:45 AM - Report of Armed Robbery

Police were dispatched to the area of 411 Valley Street for a report of a robbery. 

Upon arrival police were approached by a security guard from the Rubber Lofts who stated a male subject ran up to him and said he was just robbed at gunpoint,  then the male subject took off on foot up River Ave.  

Police were able to locate the male subject who stated to police he walked to the Mobile Gas station on Valley Street at approximately 4:15 a.m. to get supplies because he was not feeling good. 

On the way back, at the intersection of Harold Street and Aurora Street a gray SUV pulled up to him. He said an unknown male pulled out a black firearm and took his gray iphone, $1000, his Webster bank debit card and a cash app card. 

The vehicle then fled down Aurora Street towards River and took a turn in an unknown direction. The victim then spotted a security guard at 411 Valley Street and had them contact police. 

Police canvased the area for the vehicle to no avail.
