RI State Police are reporting that “at approximately 6:25 AM this morning, members of the RI State Police arrested Nicholas Brown, age 29, of Orms Street in Providence for: 1. Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, 2. Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, 3. Leaving the Scene of an Accident (2 counts) 4. Simple Assault (3 counts) 5. Disorderly Conduct, 5. Resisting Arrest.”

The State Police say that their investigation “revealed that Brown allegedly stole a Calise Bakery delivery truck from their facility, located at 300 Niantic Avenue in the City of Providence. Brown began traveling on Route 10 North and sideswiped a vehicle in the vicinity of the Union Avenue off-ramp. Brown neglected to stop and continued northbound before taking the Westminster Street off-ramp.”

The bakery which is now a regional supplier began of Providence's Federal Hill in 1908.

“At the top of the ramp, Brown made a left turn onto Westminster and sideswiped another vehicle, causing that vehicle to veer off the road and strike a utility pole head-on. Brown neglected to stop and continued on Westminster a short distance before losing control of the delivery truck, mounting a curb and crashing through the chain-link fence at the Route 6/10 construction site and striking a parked excavator," according to the State Police.

Two construction workers, who witnessed the crash, approached Brown to check on his well-being. Brown, who exited the delivery truck holding the vehicle’s fire extinguisher, discharged the contents of the extinguisher at the two good Samaritans.

Brown then attempted to enter other vehicles parked at the construction site but was unable to do so and was again approached by the two workers as well as an occupant of one of the vehicles he struck. Brown assaulted one of the subjects and was eventually restrained until a Trooper, who was assigned to the construction detail, placed Brown into custody.

Brown was arraigned at Sixth District Court and given $10,000 surety bail. He was also found to be in violation of his bail conditions from previous simple assault and disorderly conduct charges out of Providence PD and was remanded to the ACI.
