NEW: Man Stabbed Overnight in Providence in Critical Condition

A man stabbed in Providence overnight is in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital. 

There were also multiple reports of shootings in the city.

At around 9:45 PM Sunday night, Providence police were called to 271 Plainfield Street, which is the location of El Chapin Restaurant. 

When they arrived, they found a victim -- a 25-year-old male -- lying on the ground in the entranceway to the restaurant with [a] stab wound to the chest.

Rescue took him to Rhode Island Hospital where he is in critical but stable condition

Two officers observed a suspect walking through the parking lot with blood on him and took him in for questioning. 

The investigation is ongoing. 

Shots Fired

Shortly after 11 PM on Sunday, police responded to Jasper Street for a report of two males wearing dark hooded sweatshirts firing a weapon and fleeing on foot. Police found shell casings at the scene. 

At 12:30 AM, police responded to 19 Geneva Street, where a woman said she was in her living room when she heard shots fired. 

According to police, a witness observed a male shooting a handgun in the air several times and getting into a dark automobile leaving the scene

Nine shell casings were found.
