Woman Shot in Providence - While Holding Infant Inside House

Providence police responded to reports of shots fired on Ridge Street Sunday night -- and found a woman had been shot in the knee inside the house, while holding her infant.

Police were called to the scene shortly before 11 PM, and were advised by dispatch that the caller said one person ran toward a park, and a male and a female ran into a triple-decker. 

Upon arrival police met with several subjects who wished to remain anonymous who stated that they heard 4-5 gunshots and observed a black vehicle speeding down Ridge St. Police were unable to locate any spent cartridges.

Police then located a shooting victim on the first floor of 99 Ridge Street. The victim had been shot in the right knee.  

She stated that she and her husband were sitting on their bed.  The victim stated that she was holding her infant daughter when she heard gunshots and felt something strike her right knee.  She stated that she observed blood and realized that she had been shot.

The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
