Police Respond to Shots Fired at Vehicle in Providence by Elorza’s House

Providence police responded to reports of shots fired at a vehicle early Saturday morning in Providence.

According to police, a call came in shortly after 4 AM at 16 Deborah Street off Plainfield Street — and police had responded prior to the address for “dispersal of subjects.”

Police observed a bullet hole on the driver’s side door.

Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza resides on the same block, just hundreds of feet away. 

As GoLocal reported in June, Elorza began receiving increased police detail at his home in Providence — after recently saying he wants to reallocate police resources. 

Latest Violence in City

This week, police responded to two other reports of shots fired — at residences.

Wednesday night, police responded to reports of shots fired on Douglas Avenue — and early Friday morning, responded to shots fired on Calhoun Street. 

Shots Fired Three Out of Last Four Days

Wednesday Night

Police responded to 860 Douglas for a report of shots fire at approximately 10:50 PM on Wednesday. Dispatched advised Police that 9 shots were heard.

Police observed multiple subjects outside the residence of 848 Douglas Ave who wished to remain anonymous who said they heard multiple shots fired in close proximity to them in the parking lot. While Police were surveying the area for a scene, Police observed what appeared to be a bullet hole in the front living room window of 846 Douglas Ave. Police made contact with the resident of 846 Douglas Ave who stated she also heard the shots but did notice the bullet hole in her front living room. She stated that her ten-year-old son lives with her in the upstairs bedroom and that she and her son were not injured.  

As Police surveyed the residence, another bullet hole was observed near the second-floor front window in the siding of the house. As Police continued to canvass the area for a scene, police located 10 shell casings behind a fence in a lightly wooded area in the front of 863 Douglas Ave. Police also located a scene at 840 Douglas Ave which appeared to be 1 bullet hole in the gas tank area of a vehicle.

Police observed multiple trash cans in a row with what appeared to be a bullet hole in them, as well as a bullet fragment on the rear stairs of 846 Douglas Ave. Police made contact with the resident of 840 Douglas Ave who stated that he heard multiple shots and that the above vehicle belonged to his brother who lives at 836 Douglas Ave. BCI processed the scene.


Friday Morning

Police responded to 34/36 Calhoun St for a report of shots fired into the residence Friday morning shortly after 2 AM.  Upon arrival police met with the caller who resides on the first floor.  She stated that several minutes prior, she awoke to the sound of gunshots.  When she responded to the living room, she observed a bullet hole through the first-floor window.

Police were then approached by the second-floor residents, who advised police that they had captured the incident via their home video surveillance system.  Officers were then escorted upstairs and were allowed to view the video.  At 0216 hours, a vehicle is observed driving by the house towards Huntington Ave.  The vehicle stops just short of Huntington Ave, and a male subject exits.  This subject fires three (3) rounds in the direction of 34/36 Calhoun before re-entering the vehicle.  The vehicle then turns onto Huntington Ave and two male subjects exit.  These subjects proceed to fire 8-10 rounds in the direction of the residence.  Police were able to locate a crime scene at the intersection of Calhoun and Huntington.

A total of eleven .40 caliber shell casings were recovered from the intersection of Calhoun and Huntington.  Police observed that at least 3 rounds had hit 34/36 Calhoun.  From inside of the residence, 2 projectiles and 1 bullet fragment were recovered.

 

Saturday Morning

Shortly after 4 AM on Saturday morning, police responded to 16 Deborah St for a report of Shots Fired. It should be noted that Police responded to this address prior for a Dispersal of subjects. 

Upon arrival, Police met with the victim who said an unknown subject drove by and shot at him, his girlfriend, and friend in his vehicle approximately four times. Police observed a bullet hole to the driver's side door and a projectile which ricocheted off the hood of [his vehicle]. Police also observed a projectile on the ground next to the vehicle.

Subjects stated that they were having a party and an unknown black male came and an argument ensued. One subject stated to Police that the subject identified then left the party and returned..and began shooting at the vehicle.
