NEW: Man Shot and Killed in Providence Overnight

A fatal shooting -- and a stabbing -- occurred in the city Thursday night.

A man was shot and killed in the City of Providence overnight.

According to Providence police, the shooting occurred around 11:30 PM Thursday night.

The victim, age 27, died on arrival at the hospital.

Police are not releasing any more information at this time.

Stabbing Also Reported Overnight

Shortly before 11:30 PM on Thursday, police were dispatched to Gas City at 253 Elmwood Avenue for a report of a stabbing. 

The victim was observed in front of the gas station lying on the ground heavily bleeding from his right thigh. 

The victim told police he was in his vehicle at the intersection of Whitmarsh Street and Elmwood Avenue, when a female subject approached his vehicle and got into his passenger seat. The victim said they had a disagreement and he was stabbed by the female on his right thigh. 

A description and direction of travel for the subject was aired via police radio, who was shortly in custody by police. Police responded back to the scene with the suspect and the victim positively identified the female as the suspect responsible for the stabbing.  The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

Police observed a blood trail starting from the passenger side of the female’s vehicle leading to the front of 146 Peace Sreet. Upon searching and scanning the front of the address mention, the suspected knife which was covered in blood was located in the bushes in front of the residence

Police processed the scene and seized the knife.
