RI Councilman Calls Constituents "Morons" for Complaining About Snow Removal

This week, Rhode Island saw record-breaking snowfall levels in the “Blizzard of 2026.”

And one elected official has had enough of constituents complaining about snow removal.

Coventry Town Councilor Jonathan Pascua - who is also a Coventry firefighter - took to social media to call those criticizing the snow removal effort “morons.”

“If one more person messages me telling me how much taxes they pay, and how they’re angry about how fast the Town of Coventry is plowing roads, I’m going to put you on blast so the whole world can see how much of a moron you are,” Pascua posted Wednesday morning.

“Our people are working their butts off in an historic storm,” added Pascua. “Get off of me about it.”

“Positive Feedback”

“About 99% of the feedback on the post has been overwhelmingly positive. Most people understand that this is a once-in-a-lifetime event and recognize the magnitude of what our town and state is facing,” Pascua told GoLocal on Wednesday night.

“The small percentage of criticism has mostly suggested that I should ‘just smile and say nice things.’ But to be honest, I’m going to be myself. We have some of the best DPW professionals anywhere, and they are working around the clock. I will always stand up for our people when they’re giving everything they have,” he added.

Pascua defended those working to clear away the snow, days after the blizzard.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the Coventry DPW, as well as our Police and Fire Departments. Every one of them has been incredible during this disaster. When it comes to people speaking negatively about those who are out there working tirelessly for our community, I don’t have much tolerance for it — and I won’t apologize for defending them."
