VIDEO: Beating the Blizzard - This Old Horse Loves the Snow

It’s a full-on blizzard in Rhode Island - but that’s not stopping some folks.

Or horses.

On Monday, Lauryn Vernancio shared a sweet video of “Lightning” enjoying a ride through the winter wonderland.

An “auction horse rescue,” he is currently a resident at Journey’s End Farm/Epona Safe Haven in Scituate.

"Don’t mind us, we’re off to get our milk and bread!” said Vernancio, in posting the video.

So while the duo didn't make it to the store, it was still a special walk.

"Lightning took a walk around the block and back into the barn. He’s a 15-year-old standardbred that’s boarded here," said Vernancio. "He was a former harness racing horse called 'KRS Powersurge' and was an Amish buggy horse as well in Pennsylvania."

And here in Rhode Island, Lightning is in good company.

"We actually have other rescues here as well that have amazing stories. When I got him transported up here, he was very sick and cost almost $10,000.00 in vet bills," said Vernancio. "A year later, he has put on weight, is healthy, and has learned to trust humans again."

And turns out, he likes the snow.

"He did enjoy his jaunt through the snow and is probably the only horse not scared of the conditions," said Vernancio. "We might as well call him the blizzard horse."
