The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting snow to hit Rhode Island on Saturday, along with a return of dangerous cold temperatures.

The NWS has issued a Cold Weather Advisory with a warning that temperatures may hit as low as 20 below with the wind chill.

WHAT...Very cold wind chills as low as 20 below expected.

WHERE...Portions of eastern, northeastern, and southeastern Massachusetts and northern and southern Rhode Island.

WHEN...From 6 PM Saturday to 1 PM EST Sunday.

IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could result in hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken.

Snow, mainly before 5 pm. High near 29. Light north wind increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

 

Saturday Night
A chance of snow, mainly before 7 pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 2. Wind chill values as low as -14. Northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. The chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.

 

Sunday
Mostly sunny, with a high near 17. Northwest wind 10 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.
