UPDATE: National Weather Service: RI to Get 12 to 20 Inches of Snow

Get ready for the potential of a major snowstorm hitting Rhode Island this weekend. The updated forecast for accumulation has now been released by the National Weather Service, and is expected to be a major storm.


Today
A chance of snow showers between 8 am and 11 am. Cloudy, with a high near 36. Light and variable wind becoming north around 5 mph in the morning. The chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. Light north wind.

 

Sunday
A chance of snow, mainly after 4 pm. Cloudy, with a high near 36. Calm wind becoming east 5 to 9 mph in the morning. The chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

 

Sunday Night
Snow, mainly after 9 pm. Low around 27. Blustery, with a northeast wind 9 to 14 mph increasing to 17 to 22 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 38 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches is possible.

 

Monday
Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 33. Windy, with a north wind 24 to 29 mph, with gusts as high as 48 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 8 to 12 inches possible.

 

Monday Night
Snow likely, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21. Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. The chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 32. Northwest wind 7 to 9 mph.
