NEW: Former PC Star Shammgod to Join Mavericks as Assistant of Player Development

Former PC star God Shammgod is joining the Dallas Mavericks as an assistant of player development. The news was first reported by CBS Sports. 

After a pro career in both Europe and Asia, Shammgod came back to Providence to complete his undergraduate degree and worked as a graduate assistant on the Friar's men's basketball team.

Over the last couple of seasons, he has mentored players like Kris Dunn, LaDontae Henton and Bryce Cotton.

Shammgod's PC Career 

As a player at Providence, Shammgod was a star on the 96-97 Friars team then went to the Elite 8 before losing in overtime to Arizona. Arizona would go on to win the national championship that season. 

In his two years playing at PC, Shammgod averaged 10 points and 7 assists per gam, leading the NCAA and the Big East in assists during the 1996-97 season. 

Shammgod as a Pro

Shammgod entered the NBA Draft after the 96-97 season and was taken 45th overall but he Washington Wizards. 

In that one year, he played a total of 146 minutes in 20 games, scoring a total of 61 points and dishing out 36 assists on the season. 

After his one season in the NBA, he went and played for the Chinese Basketball Association and  where he was the league's scoring champion in 2004.

Shammgod left pro basketball in 2009 after a season with the Oregon Waves of the International Basketball League. 

Dallas Mavericks 

As part of the Mavericks staff, Shammgod will work with guards like J.J. Barea and Seth Curry as well as veteran guards like Deron Williams and Wes Matthews.
