Man Reportedly Assaulted During Carjacking in Providence Monday Morning—Second in Two Days

The reported carjacking is the second in Providence in two days.

A man was reportedly assaulted during a carjacking in Providence early Monday morning. 

It marks the second carjacking in the city reported in two days -- and the latest in a string of carjackings since July.

Shortly after 5 AM on Monday, police responded to the area of Smith Street and Young Avenue for a report of a carjacking. 

Police spoke to the victim, who said he was on his way to the 7-11 located on Smith Street when a vehicle pulled up on his driver's side and motioned to him to put his window down.

The victim told police he "rolled his window down and a Spanish-speaking male began to assault him with an unknown weapon, knocking him unconscious."

According to police, a contusion could be seen above the victim's left eye from the assault. The victim told police he only remembers waking up laying on the side of the road and his belongings missing. He also told police he believed the vehicle that pulled up next to his with the assailant was a gray minivan. 

The victim told police when he regained consciousness, his vehicle was gone, along with his belongings. 

Police are currently investigating.
