Providence Police Make Arrest in Recent Homicide

Providence police announced Friday the arrest of a suspect in a recent homicide. 

As a result of an investigation conducted by Providence Police Detectives, an arrest warrant was obtained for Andrew Mangru for the murder of Andrei Bonilla that occurred on August 28, 2021 on Branch Avenue. 

Mangru was arrested Friday morning on Prairie Avenue and arraigned Friday afternoon.

According to Bonilla's obituary: 

Andrei was a successful graduate of the Year UP program and later became a field technician at IGT in Providence. He was a gifted athlete, who excelled in sports. He played football for the East Providence Mohawks, which earned the privilege of competing in the Pop Warner Super Bowl Championship in Orlando, FL.  

He was part of the AAU traveling basketball team, which allowed him to compete with other teams throughout New England. Andrei also proudly played basketball for the Paul Cuffee High School Navigators.
