June is Pride Month in Rhode Island -- and Davide Gnoato, Rhode Island Pride’s interim board president, to GoLocal's Molly O'Brien that this year, they want to bring the focus back "to the fact we still have a lot of work to do.”

The theme for RI Pride 2017 is "When We R.I.S.E." - an acronym for "Rhode Islanders Standing for Equality." This Saturday is the 41st Annual PrideFest and Illuminated Pride Parade

“Our Trans brothers and sisters and people of color within our community still face a lot of hardship and a lot of discrimination,” said Gnoato. "It's important to celebrate our victory when we can, but there’s so much more work that can be done.”

He also says while Rhode Island tends to be ahead of the curve on most issues, there are still many people within the LGBTQ community who are worried their rights can be taken away.

For the future of RI Pride, Gnoato says they are looking for a space to bring people together and house multiple organizations, to form an area where people can seek resources, host events, have a meeting space, even grab a cup of coffee.

PrideFest and the illuminated night parade are Saturday, June 17.
