When Bryce Hopkins fell to the court in the early stages of the second half last Wednesday night, the Friars were in the midst of the Big East brawl against Seton Hall in Providence.

The Friars, going into the game, were 11-2 and 2-0 in the conference. Add in that PC was undefeated at home for the season.

First-year Providence coach Kim English had been riding a three-headed scoring monster —  Hopkins, guard Devin Carter, and center Josh Oduro.

Hopkins's injury was his ACL, ending his season. With the void, the burden for scoring and rebounding shifted, and unfortunately for the Friars, Oduro has stumbled since the injury.

In the Seton Hall game, after starting 6-6 from the field, Oduro missed nine of his next 10 attempts. Five out of six of them in the final minutes. The Friars lost by just four. Oduro had just 3 rebounds for the game.

Saturday, Oduro Stumbled Far Worse

On Saturday, the Friars traveled to Creighton. And again, PC needed Oduro, a fifth-year grad student, to rise to the challenge.

But Oduro was just 4 of 17 from the field, 0-5 from behind the 3-point line. Again, he grabbed just 3 rebounds. The Friars ended up losing 69-60.

In total, he is 5 of 26 since Hopkins was injured.

For Oduro, who played four years at George Mason University — his last two for English, it is critical for him to produce.

The Friars are desperate for a second consecutive scorer behind Carter, who scored 25 on Saturday at Creighton. PC has now dropped to 11-4 (2-2 in the Big East) and is likely to fall out of the top 25 due to its two losses this past week.

The Friars' season rides on the 240-pound Oduro’s broad shoulders. St. John's at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday is a chance for redemption for Oduro.

PC's season and an NCAA tourney ticket depend on Oduro's consistent production.
