Providence Mayor Brett Smiley raised more than $260,000 for the first quarter of 2026, and he spent big, too.

Smiley’s campaign spent more than $177,000 in the quarter.

He ends the quarter with $1,354,222.21.

State Representative David Morales raised a little more than $97,000 for the quarter and spent $66,000. And ended the quarter with 118,870.81 cash on hand.

While Smiley is the King of the big donor — especially of those tied to the development community, Morales has his own fiefdom. He is the king of the small donor.

Morales registered more than four times as many individual donations as Smiley, but Smiley out-raised him by more than 2.5 to 1.

Here is a partial list of the names of individuals in the development community who were significant donors to Smiley:

James Abdo Abdo Development (owner of the mothballed Old Providence Journal Building) $1,000

Harry Angevine, Marathon ($2,000)

Brian Barringer, Consigli Construction $250

Samuel Brander, The Peregrine Group $1,000

Domenic Carpionato, Carpionato Group $1,000

Buff Chace, Cornish $2,000

Kelly Coates, Carpionato Group $500

Kevin Diamond, Providence Architect/ Dezube $300

Brad Dimeo, Dimeo Construction $1,000

Harrison Dulgarian, Dulgarian Properties $1,000

Paul Griesinger, Capstone Properties $1,000

James Karam, First Bristol $2,000

Antonio Manaigo, Knight & Swan Development LLC $2,000

Federico Manaigo, Knight & Swan Development LLC $2,000

Lianne Marshall, Marshall Properties $1,000

Jim Procaccianti, Procaccianti Group $1,000

Other Smiley notables: Richard Snappy, who operates the strip joint, the Cadillac Lounge ($1,000), movie maker Chad Verdi ($1,000), three-time Democratic gubernatorial candidate Myrth York ($1,100), and former Governor and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo ($2,000).

The largest expenditure for Smiley was advertising — about $40,000, including a one-time $30,000 payment to Atlanta-based Canal Partners Media.  The other major expenditure is staff spending

Morales Attracts Lots of Small Donors

An example of a Morales donor is Chantelle Tangui. She works at the Cheesecake Factory, lives on Smith Street, and donated $10 a month to Morales in the first quarter for a total of $30.

For both Morales and Smiley, many of their donations come from outside the City of Providence.
