About Incident
Kathy Reavis, who lives on Arlington Avenue at Irving Avenue, said she woke up Sunday morning to the beehive destruction.
She then checked the family’s video surveillance of the property and saw what happened; she said the time stamp showed it happened around 12:30 AM Sunday morning.
Reavis spoke with GoLocal about the impact the property crime could have on her hives — and more.
“We have four hives,” said Reavis. “Three hives have about 60,000 bees each; my fourth hive has about 25,000. The one tipped over is my biggest hive.”
Now, Reavis is concerned that the hive might not recover.
“If the queen bee is killed, my hive will die, if I’m not able to ‘re-queen’ soon,” said Reavis, who said her family has invested thousands of dollars into the beehives. “They might try and make a new queen, but that will take time.”
Seeking Info
Reavis said that she and her husband are “just angry” — and are asking the public if they might have any info.
The couple has been tending to their hives for over seven years.
Reavis said a reward of $200 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest; she has already filed a police report.
