The Providence College Men's Basketball team announced Monday that Anton Bonke is transferring to the Friars from Eastern Arizona College.

According to PC, Bonke will enroll for the 2024 spring semester and will practice with the team.  He will not be eligible to compete in games until the 2024-25 academic year due to NCAA midyear enrollment transfer rules in basketball.

Bonke, a 7-foot-2-inch center, has three seasons of eligibility remaining. He played in 17 games this season at Eastern Arizona College, where he helped the team post a 13-4 mark.

"We are excited that Anton is joining our program," said PC Friars Head Coach Kim English. "We believe that Anton has the potential to be an impactful player for our team.  He has great size and strength, which is essential in the Big East.  It will be beneficial to have him practicing with the team through the remainder of the 2023-24 season."

He started 16 of the 17 games he played and averaged 18.3 minutes per game; he averaged 9.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for Eastern Arizona.

PC lost to the Xavier Musketeers, 85-65, on Saturday at home. It was the Friars' fourth consecutive Big East loss since Bryce Hopkins was injured.

The Friars fell to 11-6 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

The news comes on the heels of Oswin Erhunmwunse, a center considered a top-25 prospect in the Class of 2025, declaring last week he wants to be a Friar. He is expected to play for the Friars in the fall.
