“Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has explained his decision to pick Thomas Partey in his World Cup squad while the former Arsenal midfielder is awaiting a trial in London on multiple charges of rape,” according to the Independent.

Partey, a Ghana international, has previously denied all charges. According to ESPN, Partey has been charged with seven counts of rape and one of sexual assault in London between 2020 and 2022.

Queiroz cited a presumption of innocence for Partey, who now plays in Spain for Villarreal and has pleaded not guilty.

Providence Is the Base Camp for Team Ghana

Providence has been selected as the official "Team Base Camp" for the Ghana Football Association during the FIFA World Cup 2026.

"Today we announce that Ghana will be staying in Providence and we'd also like to extend an invitation to the fans and families to come to our city," said Mayor Brett Smiley in February.  "We are committed to being a festive destination for soccer fans from around the world and look forward to announcing our fan experience plans."

Bryant University will serve as the team's official training site; according to state officials, the Ghana "Black Stars" will use Bryant’s 43,000-square-foot field house and state-of-the-art training, recovery, and wellness center in Smithfield.
