Cranston Councilman Ed Brady criticizes Mattiello

Cranston Councilman Ed Brady is criticizing Speaker of the House Nick Mattiello for claiming in an ad that Brady is supporting Mattiello.

Brady says the claim by the Mattiello team is false. “I am very disappointed that Nick Mattiello’s campaign team has placed an ad in the Cranston Herald which gives the appearance that I am openly endorsing him in his re-election campaign.  I have made no such open endorsement,” said Brady in a social media post.

Mattiello is in a close battle to retain the 15th House District in Cranston against GOP challenger Barbara Ann Fenton-Fung.

Brady went on to write, “I have the utmost respect for Mayor Allan Fung and his wife Barbara Ann. Mayor Fung is instrumental in why I decided to serve and change my party affiliation from a Independent to a Republican. They have always supported me and I have learned so much from their continued community leadership and support over the years. Mayor Fung’s fiscal responsibility has allowed our city to not only survive through Covid but progress forward. We are truly lucky to have his leadership. Barbara Ann has definitely become a friend and earned my respect. She is well qualified to be the District 15 state representative.”

“As a local businessman, I have not taken a formal position in this political race because I consider both candidates friends respectfully.

"Common courtesy should have mandated by his campaign team and I should have been asked for the permission to use my quote and photo…” said Brady.

The Mattiello campaign refutes Brady's statement. "Ed Brady willingly participated in a campaign video and photo shoot this past summer and his kind words about the Speaker are appreciated," said Patti Doyle, spokesperson for the Mattiello campaign.

He says he has not endorsed either candidate.
