Veteran Prov Police Officer Malloy passes away after battle with cancer

Veteran Providence Police officer Edmond Malloy passed away on Thursday evening following a five year battle with cancer.

“Last evening at 5:59 p.m. we lost Sgt. Edmond F. Malloy, Jr. after a five year battle with cancer. The son and father of a PPD Officer, Sgt. Malloy served with honor and distinction. A man of great courage and pride. He loved being a Providence Police officer. RIP Sergeant,” said Providence Public Safety in a statement.

Malloy leaves behind his wife, and two children.

The Smithfield Police Department also issued a statement on Malloy:

"The Smithfield Police Department extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Edmond F. Malloy, Jr., as well as to the Providence Police Department. Ed was a dedicated servant who fought his illness with great courage and strength. He will be missed, but will always be an inspiration to all of us." 

About Malloy

Malloy was part of the Providence Police Department for almost three decades.

He was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer in 2014, but continued to work while undergoing chemotherapy.

While battling cancer, Malloy worked as part of the FBI joint terrorism task force.

Malloy’s father was a Providence Police officer, and his son joined the force as a patrolman in 2017.
