NEW: Providence Police Identify Shooting Homicide Victim

Providence Police have identified the victim of Monday morning's shooting homicide.
"The victim of this morning’s homicide that occurred in the area of Eddy and Porter Streets is identified as Adrian Shepard, age 34 of PVD. There have been no arrests made at this time and the investigation is ongoing," said the police in a statement released Monday afternoon.

Just after midnight, a non-fatal shooting took place inside of Flow Night Club on Cranston Street in Providence — and a fatal shooting occurred on Eddy Street later Monday morning.
Providence City Council candidate Pedro Espinal -- who is running for the seat vacated by Luis Aponte after he resigned -- released the following statement on Monday.
“Our condolences are with the family and friends of the victim killed in this morning’s shooting on the corner of Eddy Street and Porter Street and with all those that continue to be affected by gun violence in Providence and throughout our country," said Espinal.
"While our community deals with the aftermath of yet another act of gun violence, as we have far too many times in the past, we must keep our head up and act swiftly. We can do more to address gun violence, and just as important, the root causes behind what possesses someone to commit such an act – poverty, lack of economic opportunities, the prevalence of gangs, and a need for increased investment in security. Public Safety is the foundation to a successful community; if people don’t feel safe, nothing else works. As a city councilor these issues would be at the forefront of my plan to rebuild trust in our community," he added.
