It may be the most expensive bar in Rhode Island history.

The bar’s cost is $3.5 million.

The press was introduced to the new facility — it served as the backdrop to a press conference hosted by Governor Dan McKee to promote the University of Rhode Island v. Providence College rivalry men’s basketball game to be played in Providence on Saturday.

In response to questions from GoLocal, the Convention Center’s spokesperson, Cheryl Cohen, wrote in an email, “The bar was just completed, and it took approximately 10 months to build. Gilbane was the builder, and ZDS was the architect.”

The bar will compete with the privately owned restaurants and bars near the Convention Center.

The new bar's name is The Exchange. Its purpose is a "gathering space at the Rhode Island Convention Center, a much-anticipated gathering space for meeting attendees, convention guests, and local fans alike."
