About Incident

Shortly after 9:30 PM  on Sunday, police were patrolling the Manton Avenue Housing Development due to the recent increase in gun violence.

The Detective and Sergeant on duty said they observed a vehicle at the end of an alley in which passengers were drinking and smoking marijuana.

Police said that upon approaching the vehicle, the operator — known to police — appeared to be intoxicated; police asked the occupants if they could search the vehicle.

According to police, they observed a satchel in the vehicle that was found to be empty.

At this time, police said the passenger — later identified as Antonio Macchioni, age 28, appeared nervous. Police asked him to step out of the vehicle, at which time police said a pat down revealed the outline of a firearm in a pants pocket.

The Sergeant conducting the search said he immediately grabbed Macchioni’s hand closest to the pocket at which time a struggle ensued; Macchioni reportedly pushed the Sergeant and the gun fell out of his pocket.

The Detective then joined the Sergeant to take Macchioni to the ground to apprehend him.

Police then retrieved the gun — which was loaded — and called for backup.

Macchioni was taken to Central Station and is now facing multiple firearms charges.
