New Incident
The employee, Luis Luna, was charged on Tuesday in District Court with carrying a pistol or revolver without a license or permit and conspiracy (felony less than five years).
According to police documents, the incident that led to the arrest began when two members of a Providence family on Prairie Avenue had called the police, saying that on Monday at about 1 AM, Luna was in his vehicle playing loud music.
The family said that at this time, a red dot laser shone from the window into Luna's vehicle. Hoping that the car would turn down the music or leave.
Luna then exited his vehicle and began to knock on the first floor. This is when Luna’s brother, later identified as Gabriel Luna, gave Luna an unknown weapon on the stairs of the residence, according to the police.
When police arrived, Luna was banging on the door with a gun in his hand.
Luis Luna’s brother, Gabriel, was also charged. He faces the same two charges.
Placed on Administrative Leave
According to Providence Mayor Brett Smiley’s office, Luis Luna Jr. was hired on March 13, 2023. His current salary is $47,958. He is currently on administrative leave, effective May 5, 2026.
