He has also served on both the RIPTA board and the RI Board of Accountancy.

Lombardi is both an accountant and an attorney by training.

The addition of Lombardi provides the Department of Administration with significant stability following the director's departure.

In March, Governor Dan McKee announced that he had requested and received the resignation of the Department of Administration director, Jonathan Womer, following ongoing operational failures related to the rollout of the State’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

McKee also announced at the time of Womer’s departure that former Providence Police officer and now Department of Revenue director Tom Verdi will serve as Interim director of the Department of Administration.
