NEW: Providence Employee Arrested After Reportedly Threatening Son With Gun

A City of Providence employee was arrested for allegedly threatening her son - at gunpoint - in Providence. 

 

The incident occurred off Broad Street early Wednesday morning.

Fight Over Phone

 

Providence police said officers responded to a 911 call on Sumter Street shortly after 6 AM.

 

Officers said that when they arrived, they encountered a woman arguing with a man, and police say the woman was in possession of a gun.

 

Police said that an officer drew a firearm and ordered the woman to put down the gun.

 

Officers say that she complied and was handcuffed. 


 

City of Providence Employee

 

According to police, the suspect was identified as Maria Reyes, age 50 - who GoLocal has learned is a parking enforcement officer in the City of Providence.

 

The victim - her son - said the two had gotten into an argument over a lost phone and his mother returned from her room with a gun - and pointed it at his chest.

 

Police said that Reyes was transported to Central Station and that the gun, as well as magazines on the premises, were seized and taken into police property.
