About Incident

Police said they responded to the 200 block of Thayer Street shortly after 1 AM for a report of a robbery.

According to police, they met with the victim -- a male in his early 50s -- who said he had been driving down Fones Alley, when he saw a group of individuals walk in front of his vehicle.

The victim told police he observed a man in a hoodie fall to the ground, at which time he got out of his car to see if he was hurt.

According to the victim, the man then jumped up and walked toward him, brandishing a knife.

The victim said a second male suspect then approached him, jumped on his back, and began punching him, before the assailants fled with his cell phone and credit cards.

Police say there were witnesses to the incident; detectives are currently investigating.
