About Incident

Shortly before 11 PM on Sunday night, Providence police responded to a call for a stolen car on Thayer Street.

When police arrived, they met with the caller, later identified as Brendan Ginley, age 24, who told police he was working for Door Dash and had just picked up an order for bubble tea to be delivered.

According to police, Ginley told police he had parked his vehicle — bearing Massachusetts plates — on a side street; but could not recall the exact location.

Police said they then believed the vehicle might be lost and not stolen, and asked Ginley to join them in looking for the vehicle.

At that point, police reported that they told Ginley they would have to pat him down before he entered a police cruiser.

Police report that they found that Ginley had a firearm in a holster which they seized, along with a magazine containing live ammunition.

Ginley, who told police he had a permit to carry in Massachusetts, was transported to Central Station and is facing weapons charges.

Providence police seized the weapon and ammunition.

Detectives are currently investigating.
