1. RI to Prioritze 75+ in Phase 2, But Not 65+
GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTGoLocal has learned that the RI Department of Health has been briefing community organizations this week and disclosed that after more than a month of delays, it has finally agreed to prioritize Rhode Island's oldest and most vulnerable citizens.
The federal government has urged states to prioritize 65+ and Massachusetts had ordered 65+ in Phase 2 of its vaccination program. RIDOH officials have agreed to prioritize 75+ in Phase 2 which is expected to begin in mid-February.
The plan may change again, as Governor-to-be Dan McKee's team is urging that 65+ be vaccinated in Phase 2.
Older Rhode Islanders have taken the brunt of the disease -- 1,815 of RI’s coronavirus deaths being those 60-years of age or older.
115 Rhode Islanders who have died were under the age of 60.
Not all of RI's 2,005 deaths have been coded for age.
According to the plan RIDOH plan, the nearly 80,000 Rhode Islanders who are 75-years-old or older will receive vaccinations at locations such as:
Municipal: Leverage existing, local sites: senior centers, housing authorities and senior housing.
In-Home Vaccinations: Work with home-care industry, partners to vaccinate the homebound
Adult Day Centers: work directly with existing facilities
Walk-In Pharmacies: Leverage existing pharmacy partners
2. RI Receives 14,000 More Doses This Week
According to the CDC and updated on Friday, RI has now:

Administered 56,617 doses (less than 3,000 administered in past 24-hours)
Of the vaccine doses received, RI has utilized 46% —a drop from 53%*

3. Vaccination Appointments Canceled Across the Country
The New York Times is reporting that scheduled vaccination appointments are being canceled due to lack of supply.
The Times reports:
Thousands of people across the country learned that their appointments had been abruptly canceled in the last few days, after vaccine shipments to local health departments and other distributors fell short of what was expected.
The health department in Erie County, N.Y., which includes Buffalo, canceled seven days of appointments this week, affecting 8,010 people, saying the state had sent far fewer doses than the county ordered. All future appointments should be considered “tentative, and are subject to vaccine availability,” the department said in a statement on Wednesday.
“We made appointments based on our hope and expectation that we would be able to fill those,” said Kara Kane, a department spokeswoman. “There’s a lot of confusion, a lot of questions, a lot of concern.”
