The Chief Executive Officer of AARP is calling for greater “clarity” — and a streamlined process — for COVID-19 vaccine administration outside of nursing homes for senior citizens.

AARP CEO Jo Ann Jenkins said the U.S. is “not moving fast enough” in an appearance on CBS News’ Face the Nation on Sunday.

“There could be some simple clarity and transparency about what is to be expected, the time frame that individuals all across this country should be thinking about,” she urged, as reported by Newsmax

“Clearly, we need to keep up the protections of wearing masks and washing our hands and doing all of those things,” she continued. “We shouldn't let our guard down. But there needs to be further clarity about and expectations set about when these vaccines are going to be administered widely.”

Jenkins’ remarks came after the organization issued a statement on December 28 on behalf of its nearly 38 million members

In Rhode Island, over 17,000 people have received the first dose of vaccine as of December 30.

While the state has stated it has prioritized healthcare workers, inmates and prison staff, and nursing homes and first responders so far, it does not break down the numbers further on the state’s COVID-19 data ports.

AARP Rhode Island is urging Governor Gina Raimondo to withdraw COVID-19 immunity for nursing homes.

Kathleen Connell, AARP Rhode Island State Director, sent a letter to Raimondo the week before Christmas addressing the organization's concerns.
