EDITORIAL: RI Insiders Pushed Most Vulnerable Out of Way to Get Vaccine, Anything Lower?
Monday, January 18, 2021
A number of Rhode Island’s wealthiest and most connected — board members and trustees of Lifespan and Care New England — jumped the line and received vaccinations.
They were not eligible to receive the protective shots under the state’s policies.
Since the two hospital groups refuse to disclose the names, let's discuss who they knocked out of the life rafts.

- The sick (those with serious preexisting conditions)
- Teachers
- The poor who have to go to work in factories and kitchens and live in crowded housing
As Rhode Island continues to struggle to secure vaccine and get the neediest vaccinated, these selfish individuals who have a fiduciary responsibility to guide their hospitals thought of themselves first and only.
The leadership of the hospitals who provided the precious vaccine to curry favor with their wealthy benefactors should be ashamed.
Rhode Island's most successful entrepreneur Angus Davis took to Twitter Sunday night, “Any board member (of a non-profit hospital no less!!) who did this should resign immediately.”
Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha should step aside and a special investigator should be named. Neronha’s physician wife is a member of Coastal Medical and her company is presently negotiating a merger with Lifespan — the very Lifespan who perpetrated the questionably moral and legal policy.
At a time when we need to build confidence in a failing national and Rhode Island vaccine program, this insider move is Rhode Island at its very worst.
