Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza has not issued any comments on the potential weekend violence, the increase in the virus or the dramatic increase in the murder rate. He has been mouse quiet.

But, on Thursday Elorza’s administration announced they were in search of “Perfect Trees.”

“While the first flake of snow has yet to fall, the holiday season is just around the corner. In preparation for the merriment, the City of Providence is on the hunt for a 35-foot to 45-foot spruce or fir to adorn the steps of City Hall for the holiday season,” said the press release.

“The winning trees will be cut down and hauled away, free of charge, courtesy of the Forestry Division of the Department of Parks and Recreation. As a special thank you, the owner(s) will be photographed with Mayor Elorza in front of their winning tree(s),” added the press release.

Make no mistake about it, GoLocal is pro-tree and the City of Providence once had a tremendous urban tree program, but that too has withered in recent years.

Providence's Mayor is tone-deaf, disconnected, and a growing embarrassment to the Capital City. At a time when the city desperately needs a leader -- we get offered a picture with the Mayor and a tree.
