Mayor Jorge Elorza

Does any crime bother us any more in Providence?

Riots, personal property destroyed, murder, gang rapes, sexual assault of children, does anything upset us?

Is this the community we want to live in?

This is no longer the Renaissance era for Providence -- it is more like the Dark Ages. Literally, it is a period of raping and pillaging.

Nine men were arrested for gang-raping a 16-year-old girl in Providence.

Remember when a murder was a disturbing event in Providence?

Then, we had five murders in two weeks in two weeks this summer. And a few more since.

A couple of weeks ago a man was robbed at gunpoint — telling police one of his assailants had a Mp5 submachine gun. That's right, allegedly robbed by a guy with a gun that can shoot 800 rounds per minute.

Then, we had a 9-year-old girl kidnapped off the street while walking home and she was sexually assaulted.

This weekend there were shots fired near Jorge Elorza’s home. Heck, this is barely news. It is the second time in a month and the third time in just over a year.

This can’t possibly shock us — three times in a year, that barely meets the standard for news.

During these past few months, our city has been ravaged, children have been assaulted, businesses destroyed.

We know there is no leadership in City Hall, so where is our collective disgust?
