And, the deaths continue to hit the state while the treatment of the disease is continuing to be more effective. In Rhode Island in the spring, 3% of Rhode Islanders infected died, that percentage has been lowered to just about 1%.

And there are growing indicators from a range of data sources that things will get worse before they get better.

On Thursday, the University of Washington's IHME modeling has Rhode Island losing between 800 and 2,000 people by April 1, 2021 depending on the use of restrictions. and finds that Rhode Island would suffer "just" 600 more deaths if restrictions are put in place and there is universal masking.

“Rhode Island’s nursing homes are seeing a near-record number of cases of the coronavirus,” GoLocal reported. “Now, the Rhode Island Department of Health is reporting the homes across the state are hit with between 230 and 234 cases.

Since March, the morbidity rate of those infected has been one in four of those infected.

Now six weeks later, the number of cases in Rhode Island have increased by 78%. Data released on Wednesday by the Rhode Island Department of Health shows that nursing home cases are now between 410 and 414 positive cases.

RI Only State on East Coast to Have a “Severe Outbreak”

But nursing homes are just one of the problems. Rhode Island continues to be the hottest spot on the East Coast.  One would have to drive 900 miles to Indiana to find a state that has the same level of outbreak according to Covid ActNow.

More than 538,000 are expected to die in the United States by April 1.

The country has suffered 2,800 to 3,100 deaths each of the last three days.
