2,572 New Coronavirus Cases in RI Over Weekend, 57% Increase in 2 Weeks

The Rhode Island Department of Health reported 2,572 new coronavirus cases in the state over the weekend.
Two weeks ago, the three-day weekend report of new cases was 1,629 — marking a 57% increase in just 14 days.
The state's total number of COVID-19 cases to date has topped 50,000.

There were 15 deaths reported over the weekend, bringing the state’s fatality total over 1,300.
Hospitalizations continue to rise, with 285 people admitted with coronavirus currently, and 30 in the ICU.
Rhode Island conducted more than 50,000 tests, but colleges and universities' asymptomatic testing was nearly one-third as they conducted 15,963 of the total tests.
On Monday, the Massachusetts Nurses Association (MNA) reported that caregivers "already exhausted and traumatized from the first surge have growing concerns about the current level of hospital industry preparedness" for the second wave.
