If you find it a challenge to fit every piece of clothing in your closet, it may be time to begin seasonally rotating your wardrobe.

If you are lucky enough to have an enormous closet that will accommodate all of your clothes, this article may not be for you. If you are short on space and find it a challenge to organize your closet and maximize space, then read on.

When was the last time you took everything out of your closet? If it’s been awhile, I’m going to give you 5 reasons that might change your mind.

You’ll become more efficient. Everybody is looking for more time in their day. If you can become more efficient in every space in your home, you would have extra hours at the end of the week. Think about how many off season clothes you have to touch in the morning before you grab what you need.  How many winter clothes are you looking at in the summer? The more decisions you have to make, the longer it will take you to get ready in the morning. Streamline your closet and just work with the current season.

You’ll feel refreshed.  Do you really want to look at winter boots in the middle of summer? After a long winter, it’s just nice to see a closet full of spring/summer clothes and be able to put the winter clothes away. You’ll bring new energy into this space.

You’ll know what you have. Take every piece of clothing out of the closet.  If you aren’t rotating your clothes, at least separate out the winter from summer. Store your winter clothes in seal tight bins or space bags. You won’t know what you have if you don’t take inventory. You can now see what you have and make your shopping list from your beautifully organized closet. You’ll also save money by avoiding impulse purchases.

You’ll find things. Every one of my clients will say, “I was looking for that” or “I forgot I had that.” You won’t know what you have hiding in the back of the closet if you don’t rotate your clothes.  Maybe you hid some gifts back there and forgot about them. You may have a beautiful black sweater that got lost at the bottom of the closet or you may find a pair to a shoe that was missing.

You’ll make room for new stuff.  It always feels good to declutter and make room in your closet for new items.  If you never rotate your wardrobe and declutter, you’ll just continue to purchase new items and they’ll get mixed in with items you never wear.

Are you familiar with the Pareto Principle 80/20 rule? It applies here that we wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time. I believe that is true. This is a great time of year to rotate your closets and take inventory of what you actually have. You’ll bring new energy into your closet and you’ll become more efficient, saving time, and money.
