Fit for Life: It’s All Over, We’re Done

The most common thing we hear these days is… “I can’t wait for 2020 to be over”, as if on January 1st, 2021, some miraculous event is going to take place and make our lives go back to normal again.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, and I always like to look at the positive side of things, however, if you are waiting for the calendar to change to improve your life, you are in for a big disappointment.
2020 wasn’t a bad year, just a lot of bad things happened during this time. The year was just like any other. 365 days over 12 months, but it was the content of the year that knocked the world to the canvas.

From day 1 of 2020, I faced the loss of my brother, and the setbacks and adversity continued to on a physical, financial, and emotional level throughout the year. However, I am not blaming the year 2020 for the things that went wrong.
Yes, the number will symbolize a chain of events most wish never happened, but you can’t carry the mindset that everything is going to fall into place once it’s over.
Finding the bad things that happened is easy however it’s just as important to dig deep and look for some good things that came out of this year. We all had a few, and it’s important to take some time these last few days of the year and focus on how WE can make 2021 better for us all.
Some good things that happened for me were:
I ate better and trained harder.
Despite contracting Lyme disease and being knocked down for months, I used exercise as an outlet to handle all the stress and anxiety that surrounded me. During the lockdown, we cooked healthy, and didn’t miss a beat with staying on a healthy eating regimen. No quarantine 15 for me. It also made me realize and appreciate how important a healthy lifestyle is, because things would be a lot worse now if I had let things slide since March.
We built a stronger community at the gym.
My team showed me that they take their jobs seriously by stepping up to the plate and going to battle with me. We could have shut down, posted some follow along videos, and called it a day, but we didn’t. We kept delivering content and value to our members, and they stayed engaged with their routines.
The members also stepped up and showed us that they appreciate what we are doing, and we all came together as a community stronger than ever.
Yes, we lost a lot of memberships, but the ones that didn’t quit are in a much better place now, than the ones that did, and we are grateful for each and every one of them.
Appreciation for life improved.
With so many deaths over the last year, we need to appreciate the fact that we are still breathing and healthy. Despite the stress and anxiety, we are still alive and capable of improving our situations for the better. This made me feel and express more gratitude, and realize that we all experience issues, and many people will have it worse than you, so appreciate what we have now.
Those are just a few positive attributes that came from 2020.
The worst thing you can do is look back and dwell. Don’t blame the world for holding you back. Don’t blame other people for your problems. Don’t resist change and stop making the same mistakes over and over again. You also can’t just sit and wait for 2021 to roll in and save you.
The best things we can do is take some time and map out a vision, mission, and purpose you can serve in the upcoming year. Take 2020 as a learning experience and grow from it. Many of us will be in the rebuilding phase, and you need to carry the mindset that if you built it before, you can do it again.
It is going to take a lot of hard work, attention to details, and laser like focus to turn things around in the future. There will be lots of opportunity to heal and grow, but the work will need to be done in order to succeed on all levels of life, from health to business.
Don’t look ahead at 2021 as a savior for a bad year, look it as a place to start rebuilding. The chances are that things could get worse before they get better, so lower expectations, and channel your energy into positive actions that will make you, your life, and other people’s lives better.
