This weekend’s events include Macklemore at McCoy Stadium, Flames of Hope in Providence, the 5th annual New England Whiskey Festival and more.

Author Jane Goodrich at The Providence Athenaeum 

The House at Lobster Cove tells the powerful love story of a mansion, the man who once lived in it, and the woman who brought it back to life. Debut novelist Jane Goodrich recounts her fascinating journey writing the fictional depiction of Boston philanthropist George Nixon Black and reconstructing Kragsyde, a late-19th century mansion on the coast of Manchester-by-the-sea.

The event goes from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Autumn Lecture Series at Blithewold: The Classical Garden

Join in for an exploration of gardens with globe trekker John Tschirch, whose thirty-year career in historic preservation has brought him to some of the world’s most extraordinary landscapes.

The Villa d'Este: Set in the hills of Tivoli to the east of Rome, the gardens of the villa d'Este are a masterpiece of Italian Renaissance design. The elaborate fountains and lush greenery of the villa have hosted kings, queens, and cardinals and have been captured by generation of artists.

The event goes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Head to the Twin River event center for the 5th annual New England Whiskey Festival. 

The festival will feature Whiskey experts and makers from across New England, as well as, live music and much more.

Community Musicworks at Southside Cultural Center 

Community MusicWorks kicks off its 22nd season with a weekend-long celebration at two iconic Providence venues. Join us September 29 at the beautiful Southside Cultural Center, when the entire CMW family gathers for a community picnic & performance featuring our resident ensemble, the MusicWorks Collective.

The celebration continues September 30 at the RISD Museum’s stunning Grand Gallery, where the MusicWorks Collective presents a program of urgent, powerfully expressive music from the Americas: Gabriela Lena Frank’s Leyendas, Osvaldo Golijov’s Last Round, and Florence Price’s 1929 String Quartet.

The event goes from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Flames Of Hope: Illuminations Of Life Ceremony And Waterfire

Come to Station Park for the Celebration of Life Festival and the coveted Illuminations of Life Ceremony and torch procession that leads to the largest lighting of WaterFire. Tens of thousands of spectators converge on Station Park to enjoy exhibits, games, food and a free concert, featuring Montreal Rhapsody Orchestra.

The event goes from 3 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Macklemore at McCoy Stadium 

Grammy Award-winning rapper Macklemore is coming to McCoy Stadium on Saturday. 

Macklemore’s first solo album in 12 years, GEMINI, was released in September of 2017.

It debuted at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and #1 on the charts for Rap, R&B/Hip-Hop, and Independent Albums.

The album includes singles “Glorious" (featuring Skylar Grey), “Marmalade” (featuring Lil Yachty) and “Good Old Days” (featuring Kesha). 

Collectively, Macklemore’s music videos have been viewed over 2.7 billion times and he is one of only two rappers to have a Diamond-certified single.

His breakthrough album ‘The Heist’ with producer partner Ryan Lewis earned the duo 4 GRAMMY Awards, 5 MTV Awards, 2 American Music Awards and 1 BET Award.

In 2016, Macklemore was featured in an MTV special with President Obama about the opioid epidemic in America and was the first US citizen ever to participate in the Presidential Weekly Address.

Doors open at 4 p.m. and the show begins at 5 p.m.

Newsies at the James and Gloria Maron Cultural Arts Center

Sunday will be the final day to see the hit show Newsies. 

 Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged newsies, who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for whats right. 

The show begins at 7 p.m.
