United Way of Rhode Island has appointed two new members to its Board of Directors.

Elected for three-year terms are Sean Edmund Rogers, Ph.D., Dean, College of Business, University of Rhode Island; and Kate N. Kishfy, Esq., founder, Kishfy Law.

“It’s a pleasure to welcome Sean and Kate to the United Way board; both are not only exceptional individuals, but tremendous leaders who bring a unique and valuable perspective to our work to build a thriving Rhode Island for all,” said Dolph Johnson, United Way’s board chair, and former EVP, chief human resources officer (retired) for Hasbro, Inc.

As the Dean of the College of Business at URI, Sean Edmund Rogers is a champion for equity in education, a collaborator, and a system builder with a vision to expand the college’s presence in the community. He is an accomplished researcher with an interest in employment discrimination, workplace diversity, and unions and labor-management relations. He earned a Ph.D. in Industrial Relations and Human Resources from Rutgers and is a certified Senior Professional in HR (SPHR), and a Society for Human Resource Management Sr. Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). Previous to URI, Sean held faculty appointments at Cornell University, New Mexico State University, and the University of Mexico. Additionally, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves as an enlisted soldier, to include an active-duty combat tour in 2003 during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He currently serves as a Medical Service Corps officer in the U.S. Air Force.

Kate Kishfy is an accomplished trusts and estates attorney with expertise in estate planning, wealth and business transfer planning, and charitable gift planning. She is particularly skilled in probate and trust administration and has extensive experience representing fiduciaries in the settlement of estates and trusts. Kate has a long history of community engagement, including as an active member of United Way’s Young Leaders Circle and by way of her work with Rhode Island Foundation. Before launching Kishfy Law, LLC, Kate was a partner in the Trusts and Estates Group at Hinckley, Allen & Snyder, LLP. She also served as Clerk to Chief Justice Paul A. Suttell of the Rhode Island Supreme Court and has held a number of staff and volunteer leadership positions with nonprofits in RI and MA.
