Introducing 5 Music Musts, a weekly set of GoLocal Music Critics Rob Duguay and Ken Abrams picks for the best in live music in the area.
Providence has been rocking all week long to the sounds of the Artistic Explosion Music Festival. Organized by GoLocalProv contributor Rob Duguay, the festival continues tonight and tomorrow.
On Friday April 26 at AS220 you can hear a potent line up including Weak Teeth, Olneyville Sound System, Songs, and Gertrude Atherton. On Saturday April 27, at Firehouse 13, check out the Viennagram, Tapestries, Consuelo’s Revenge, Little Foot, Huge Face and a super secret special guest (check back next week to see who). The festival benefits Girls Rock RI and the RI Music Educations Association, so head out this weekend and support live local music!

On Sunday April 28, the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame holds its second induction ceremony honoring nine acts hailing from Little Rhody. Induction ceremonies at The Met begin in the afternoon and continue in to the evening with performances from RI natives The Cowsills, Steve Smith and the Nakeds, and Paul Geremia. Also on Sunday, critically acclaimed Hip Hop star Kendrick Lamar is at URI’s Ryan Center. Compton, California native Lamar is getting a lot of attention, and has collaborated with Lady Gaga and appeared in an SNL digital short with Adam Levine and The Lonely Island. Hip Hop fans should not miss this one!
