Rhoda (Rinaldi) Pomeroy Dies

Les Miserables lost its greatest fan, and her family lost their center – wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother – and all-around force of nature when Rhoda (Rinaldi) Pomeroy slipped away on May 9, 2024, after battling pancreatic cancer to a standstill for more than a year. Since Rhoda never did anything she didn’t want to, you can be sure she said goodbye only when she was ready.

Rhoda was born on November 2, 1953, the daughter of Anna Cifu Rinaldi and Michael Rinaldi Sr., and grew up in Cranston. Given Rhoda’s flair for the dramatic, it’s not a surprise that she got a full-page photo spread in the Providence Journal with her pet duck, Billy, when she was four years old! Rhoda’s tales of her childhood transformed the Budlong pool to legendary status in the eyes of her children and stepchildren.

While working at Allendale Insurance (now FM Global) Rhoda met her husband and partner in crime, Jack. They were married for nearly 43 years; Jack used to joke that that period “included the best 10 years of his life!” In reality, he was devoted to her and held her close as she passed.

When they married, Jack had two sons by his prior marriage and Jack and Rhoda soon added two more sons to their brood. Those four boys were the focus of the family and the source of more joy than can be measured.

Rhoda loved life. She loved Christmas Eve, Super Bowl parties, fine (and casual) dining, travel, the beach, her friends, her dogs, Les Mis and Six Feet Under – as a partial list. As much as she loved doing any of these fun things, according to her stepson, Brendan, what she REALLY loved was PLANNING to do those things. Rhoda was incredibly organized and yet endearingly spontaneous.

She loved fiercely, and her life was well-lived. She was loved and will be loved forever.

Rhoda leaves her husband Jack, sons, Jake and Kevin and stepsons Ryan and Brendan. All five were her boys.

She also leaves her sister, Cynthia, five grandchildren, two nieces and many cousins to whom she was very close. She was predeceased by her parents and older brother Michael Jr.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 18th at 11:00 a.m. in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory-SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Road (Rt. 1A), Narragansett.  Burial will be private.  VISITING HOURS will be held on Friday, May 17th from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.
