Stirring up a frenzy wherever he goes--Andrew W.K. Photo: Lisa Gourley

This past Thursday at Fete you had to be here, the undisputed king of partying and in Andrew W.K. headlined a show as part of The Human Party Machine Solo Tour that was the premier event in Providence this week. Local booking company General Assembly put it all together and Casey Desmond, Herra Terra and The Rice Cakes rounded out a rocking bill along with Born Casual spinning the best in hip-hop. Looking for a party? Fete was party central in The Creative Capital on Thursday.

Casey Desmond

Boston synth-pop musician Casey Desmond along with Taylor Barefoot on guitar kicked things off and it was contagiously head-bopping. They had an insanely cool sound, I always love when a badass guitar riff can intertwine with electronic beats and an exquisite voice. "Deja Vu", "Rocket Lover", "Talking To God", "Heartbeat"," "Rendezvous", "Manboy" and "Underground" had me in a spell, very unique and groundbreaking pop that made you want to dance. Casey has a new album titled Deja Vu available, grab a copy and shake your hips until the cows come home.

Herra Terra

Another band that has Boston roots in Herra Terra came up next. I'll be honest, last time I saw them play a couple years ago I wasn't that impressed but they had me feeling the exact opposite this time around. A band that reminds me of a cross between Phoenix and MGMT, they will blow you away with sheer vigor and brilliance. "Hyperborean", "Dead Ends", "You Were The Accelerator", "Kittens", "Organs For The Afterlife" and "Reason To Lose It" were part of a performance that had the crowd going wild and people working up a sweat on the dancefloor. Herra Terra came out with their last album Hyperborean this past February and I love the new material, check it out for yourself and warp your mind.

The Rice Cakes

I'm not going to lie, The Rice Cakes have been my favorite band in Rhode Island for what seems like eons now. Casey Belisle, Justin Foster and Roz Raskin are three extremely talented musicians and together they create beautifully original indie-pop, so you knew already that I was excited to see them play again. "Halloweenie", "Push & Pull", "Like Ass", "Zabudabudee", "Floor Boards" and "Magma" highlighted a magnificent performance that only The Rice Cakes can deliver. The Rice Cakes have a brand spanking new 7" single that has both "Halloweenie" and "Floor Boards" on it, showing how far this power trio has come and how far they can go.

Andrew W.K.

Everyone was anxious for Andrew W.K. to take the stage, you could feel it in the room and the intensity was about to shoot up to an all-time high. The crowd started chanting "Andrew!!! Andrew!!! Andrew!!!" and then "Party!!! Party!!! Party!!!" like bunch of rabid fiends craving for a fix. After an overload of anticipation, the party king came up on stage with Blakey Boy and delivered with "It's Time To Party", "Take It Off", "Long Live The Party", "Bangers & Beans", "Ready To Die", "We Want Fun", "It's Not A Show, It's A Party!", "You Will Remember Tonight", "I Love Boston City" dedicated to the victims of The Boston Marathon Bombings, "Party Hard" and then followed it all up with a countdown from 95 to finish off a raucous performance with "I Get Wet". Intensity, energy and awesomeness doesn't even amount to the experience that is an Andrew W.K. show. He brings his best every time he performs and in my opinion he's the greatest philosopher of the 21st Century, yea I said it. Andrew W.K. will be teaming up with The Ramones' Marky Ramone as the lead singer of Marky Ramone's Blitzkrieg at The Paradise Rock Club in Boston on October 4th, it's sure to be a once in a lifetime experience so definitely mark your calendars for that and head up on I-95 to check it out. No big deal, just another exhilarating show at Fete. Haven't been there yet? Well, what's stopping you? Log on to fetemusic.com to see when the next big act is hitting the stage.
